Twice? Tweet? What?

I saw my parents yesterday. My Dad said to me, “What’s the new thing I read about, I don’t remember what it was called, something online. [A person who’s name I forget] made billions off of it, I saw it in the paper. T–Twice? Tweet?”

Twitter?” I responded.

“Yeah, whats the deal with that?”

I then spent about a half hour trying to explain to my parents that Twitter is a networking website where you basically update it whenever you want, saying a line or two about whatever you want. They didn’t get it. Well, no, I take that back. They understood the concept of Twitter but they repeatedly asked me why anyone would ever want to have one.”I don’t want to know what anyone else is doing and I sure as hell don’t want anyone to know what I’m doing,” my Dad said.

My mom was more accepting of the subject. She thinks that it’s inappropriate for “old people” to have a Facebook, (I somewhat agree) but asked if she was allowed to make a Twitter. I told her sure, go ahead. But then my parents got to talking some more, completely ignoring me and everything I had explained to them about Twitter, and they concluded that although it might be an okay thing for me to use, it’s stupid. Who wants to come home after work and log on Twitter so they can tell the world what they’re doing. And– why would anyone even care?

After the conversation, I logged onto Twitter and made an account of my own.
